The Request for Qualifications issued March 17, 2020 to provide construction manager at-risk services (CM-R) for the Garden City Aquatics Center. The following bids were received:
- Commission approved the proposed schematic design from Confluence for the new aquatics center.
- The Commission and Confluence would like the community's input to help weigh in on the name and theme of the new aquatics facility.
- Commission approved McCown Gordon to be the Construction Manager at Risk for the project and proceed with the boring at The Big Pool.
- Commission tabled the decision on whether or not to open The Big Pool for the 2020 season in light of COVID-19 and the corresponding requirements of State and local health orders.

- The Governing Body issued temporary notes in the amount of $14 million. The project and budget approved by the Governing Body on December 17, 2019 was $12.78 million and that is still the budgeted number being used for this project.

- In the original project plans for Garden Rapids at the Big Pool the existing splash pad was intended to be connected to the new aquatic park. Wallace Electric began testing on the existing spray grounds system, when it was discovered the point-to-point ground tests did not meet the standard set by The National Electric Code. The Governing Body considered and approved construction of a new spray ground at Garden Rapids at the Big Pool.

- The Commission voted and approved a request to allow under Section 6-35 and 6-133 the possession, consumption, and sale of cereal malt beverages or alcoholic liquors on the sidewalks, streets and public park area, specifically Garden Rapids at the Big Pool on the following four occasions:
- May 28, 2021 from 6 pm to 8 pm for the Stakeholder's Reception.
- June 4, 2021 from 8:30 pm to 10:30 pm. Adult Swim Night.
- July 2, 2021 from 8:30 pm to 10:30 pm. Adult Swim Night.
- August 6, 2021 from 8:30 pm to 10:30 pm. Adult Swim Night.

The City of Garden City has received its annual award from the Finnup Foundation in the amount of $180,000! This generous gift by the foundation will provide $40,000 to Lee Richardson Zoo, $40,000 to the Parks Department and the first installment of $100,000 towards a new splash pad in Finnup Park which will replace the recently removed splash bad that was originally intended to remain part of Garden Rapids at the Big Pool.
- Garden Rapids at the Big Pool will be hosting all city employees and their immediate family members on Saturday, May 22, 2021. This event will be used as a training event for Garden Rapids staff prior to the opening of the facility on May 29, 2021. The event flyer is attached with details of the event.

- Garden Rapids at the Big Pool will be hosting a stakeholders reception on May 28, 2021 at 6 pm. The stakeholders reception for the Garden Rapids at the Big Pool to celebrate the completion of the project with the people that made the project possible. Light hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be served. The official invitation is attached and will be mailed directly to stakeholders.

- Garden Rapids at the Big Pool Grand Opening is scheduled for May 29, 2021 from noon to 2 pm. This is the big community-wide celebration event! Admission is free and there will be a ribbon cutting, hamburger feed and prizes. Normal operations will resume after 2 pm including the admission fee of $3 to enter the park. Please review the attached flyer for specific event times.
